Conversation Starters

English | Español

Made in collaboration with voting experts and healthcare professionals, our voter scripts are non-partisan, research-backed, and appropriate for most clinical settings.

Encourage your patients to vote by sharing nonpartisan, personal examples from your own life and community.

Use your discretion to decide when and how to ask a patient about their registration status.

Share thoughts such as “I vote because I care about the world I am leaving for my children,” rather than talking about specific candidates or parties.

Use Vot-ER tools consistently and give all patients the opportunity to register to vote.

Do you smoke? Do you drink? Are you safe at home? Are you registered to vote at your current address?

Or, Transition From Social History

We’re all done with this part of your history. I now want to transition to something else that’s really important to your health and well-being, and that’s voting. Are you registered to vote at your current address?

Intro

Before I leave, I’d like for you to check if you are registered to vote at your current address.

Your Vote is Powerful

Your vote is a powerful tool to address and improve issues you care about, like your health.

Your Vote Makes an Impact

Local elections are often decided by a small number of voters, and the impact on your community is immediate. Through your vote, you have a say on issues like prices of medication and the cost of health insurance that affect your friends and family.

Voting Makes a Difference to Your Community

Before we wrap up today, I wanted you to check if you’re eligible to vote and registered to vote at your current address. By voting, you can support the health of your neighbors and your community

Your Vote is Powerful — The First Step To Shape Our Future

Your voice is essential, and you should have a say in shaping the future. Voting isn’t the only way to make positive change, but it’s an easy way to get started. Without voting, it’s hard to get anything else done. The reality is, if you don’t vote, others will decide for you.

Vot-ER Ask

To get ready to vote, you can point your camera at this QR code on my badge or go to this link. The nonpartisan platform can help you register, get the forms you need to vote by mail, find out who’s running and what’s on the ballot, and find your polling place to vote in person before Election Day. If you have questions, there’s a helpline to support you.

“Well doc, why should I vote?”

Why I vore

I know what you mean. Sometimes I get frustrated too. Patients ask me, why should they vote? I can tell you why I vote. I want my voice to be heard and I want to help my community. Voting is not the only way to do that, but when you vote, people pay more attention to you. And you have more power to hold elected leaders accountable.

Each Vote Makes a Difference

Local elections can make a big difference in our day to day life. And they can be decided by just a few votes. When you vote, you get your chance to choose the best people you can to represent you as a School Committee member, or City Counselor, or Town Clerk. And if you don’t decide, someone else will decide for you.
