Vot-ER’s Next Chapter Begins with Lizet Ocampo as Executive Director

We’re thrilled to announce that Lizet Ocampo has joined Vot-ER as our new Executive Director, bringing over two decades of experience building movements that transform how Americans engage with democracy.

Proven Leadership in Civic Engagement

Lizet’s career spans the full spectrum of civic participation, from policy creation to grassroots organizing. She most recently served as Executive Director of Political at My Code, where she pioneered digital strategies to reach diverse audiences across campaigns and organizations. Before that, she led Voto Latino, one of the nation’s largest nonpartisan voter registration programs, demonstrating exactly the kind of scaled impact Vot-ER aims to achieve in healthcare settings.

Her work with the Dolores Huerta Action Fund focused on organizing low-propensity voters, communities that Vot-ER reaches through our healthcare partnerships. She’s also served as Senior Director of Strategy at People For the American Way, running their Latinos Vote! program to engage Latino voters nationwide.

The Healthcare-Democracy Connection

What makes Lizet uniquely suited for Vot-ER is her deep understanding of both healthcare policy and civic engagement strategy. She worked in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs to help pass the Affordable Care Act, giving her firsthand experience with how electoral outcomes directly shape health policy. This combination of policy expertise and organizing experience positions Vot-ER to move from proving our concept works to making healthcare-based civic engagement standard practice across America’s healthcare system.

Building on Strong Foundations

Vot-ER has made a measurable difference: over 900 healthcare institutions use our tools, and we’ve helped more than 650,000 voters get ready to vote. Our work has earned recognition from major medical associations, including the American Medical Association’s resolution declaring voting a social determinant of health.

With healthcare representing 20% of the U.S. economy and 83% of Americans visiting a healthcare setting annually, the potential for expanding nonpartisan civic engagement through trusted medical relationships is enormous. Lizet’s track record of scaling voter engagement programs makes her ideally positioned to realize this potential.

Strategic Vision for Scale

With Lizet at the helm, Vot-ER is positioned to transform how Americans think about the intersection of health and democracy. Research consistently shows that communities with higher civic engagement have better health outcomes, and healthcare settings represent one of the most trusted and accessible venues for connecting people to democratic participation.

This appointment marks a pivotal moment for both Vot-ER and the broader civic health movement. As we work to make every healthcare interaction an opportunity for civic engagement, Lizet’s experience building movements that matter will be invaluable in achieving our vision of a healthier democracy.

Join Us in Building This Movement

With Lizet’s leadership and our proven model, we’re ready to scale healthcare-based civic engagement nationwide. But realizing this vision requires resources to expand our programs, develop new tools, and support healthcare institutions in becoming hubs of democratic participation.
